The latest update from Valve changes the previous method of calculating the lock period by introducing a precise hourly system instead of the former fixed reset times.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-how-has-the-duration-of-trade-protection-in-cs2-changed\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">How has the duration of Trade Protection in CS2 changed?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>After the latest update, the Trade Protection mechanism now always lasts exactly 7 days<\/strong>, and items are unlocked on the full hour aligned with the exact time of the transaction, rounded up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the old system, the lock lasted from 7 to 8 days. Everything depended on whether the trade took place before or after 9:00 a.m. CEST, because Steam unlocked items in bulk every day at a fixed time. The new update completely removes this rule. The lock period is now calculated individually for each transaction. <strong>If you trade skins on July 1, 2026 at 1:25 p.m., the lock will be removed exactly one week later \u2013 on July 8 at 2:00 p.m.<\/strong>, after rounding the transaction time up to the nearest full hour.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-how-does-sellyourskins-handle-steam-s-new-lock-system\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">How does SellYourSkins handle Steam\u2019s new lock system?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Our platform, <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/sellyourskins.com\/en\"><strong>SellYourSkins<\/strong><\/a><strong>, was one of the first websites on the market to adapt its algorithms to the new mechanism and now unlocks trades and payouts under the new hourly system<\/strong>. The changes introduced by Valve directly affect the moment when the service processes cash payouts for sold skins, because users receive their money after the protection period ends.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Under the new system, before confirming a trade, you will see the expected unlock time of the items in the SellYourSkins interface, estimated by our algorithm. After you complete the trade with our bot, the system automatically retrieves exact feedback from Steam regarding the date when the lock will be removed. The new rules do not involve any additional fees or new requirements for sellers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-what-is-the-trade-protected-security-system-introduced-by-valve\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is the Trade Protected security system introduced by Valve?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Trade Protected is a security status assigned to Counter-Strike 2 items that allows the user to cancel and reverse a trade transaction within 7 days of completing it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You can identify protected items by the yellow shield icon next to the item in the Steam inventory. If a player realizes that they have fallen victim to a scam or have been deceived, they can submit a request to reverse the trade through Steam Support. The system then reverses the entire transaction and returns the items to their original owners. The main consequence of such a reset is a 30-day trade cooldown applied to all skins involved in that trade. For a full month, these items cannot be traded again or listed on the market, and this lock cannot be shortened or removed in any way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"h-how-do-trade-protection-restrictions-affect-the-cs2-skins-market\" class=\"wp-block-heading\">How do Trade Protection restrictions affect the CS2 skins market?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Trade Protection restrictions prevent instant item trading and completely cut off the CS2 market from fluid item exchange with other games such as Team Fortress 2, Dota 2, or Rust.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The new protection system has ended the era of fast skin trading. Previously, a common practice was to use Team Fortress 2 keys as a universal intermediary currency because they had a stable value and were not subject to a time lock. This type of cross segment trading has now been blocked. In addition, items covered by Trade Protection have in-game modification options disabled for the first 7 days. This means that for one week, you cannot open cases received through a trade, apply or scrape stickers, or place skins into storage containers.
