Gut Knife Case Hardened is one of the more distinctive knives in CS2. Like other skins from this series, its appearance depends on the pattern seed, a number from 1 to 1000 that determines how the metallic texture is applied to the knife blade.
Most Gut Knife Case Hardened patterns contain a mix of gold, purple, and blue colors. However, a small number of seeds generate patterns with a large amount of intense blue color. In the CS2 community, such patterns are referred to as Blue Gems.
For knives, Blue Gems are especially important because the large blade surface makes the blue color very visible. The best seeds can be many times more expensive than regular Case Hardened patterns.
What Is a Blue Gem?
Every Gut Knife Case Hardened uses the same texture, but its placement changes depending on the seed.
Key facts:
- the pattern seed ranges from 1 to 1000
- only a small number of seeds generate patterns with dominant blue color
- for the Gut Knife, the visible blade side (playside) is the most important
- the larger the area of clean blue color on the blade, the higher the collector value
Blue Gem Seed Ranking
The trading community usually divides Case Hardened patterns into three quality tiers.
- Tier 1 (T1) – the best Blue Gem patterns with the largest amount of blue color on the playside of the blade.
- Tier 2 (T2) – seeds with a large amount of blue but with more visible gold and purple fragments.
- Tier 3 (T3) – patterns with smaller blue elements that may still look visually attractive but are not considered top tier Blue Gems.
Out of the 1000 possible seeds, only a small portion generate patterns recognized as Blue Gems.

Blue Gem Statistics
- Case Hardened skins have 1000 possible seeds
- only a small portion generate Blue Gem patterns
- most patterns contain large gold and purple areas
- the price of the skin depends primarily on the pattern seed, and only then on the float
For Gut Knife Case Hardened, a good seed can significantly increase the value of the skin. Even a Field-Tested example with an attractive Blue Gem pattern can be far more valuable than a regular Factory New version of the skin.
