In CS2, players often talk about “T-side skins” and “CT-side skins.” Sometimes this simply describes the color or style of a skin, but CS2 also lets you configure separate loadouts for the Terrorist and Counter-Terrorist sides. Valve introduced dedicated T and CT loadout choices with CS2’s new loadout system.
So, can you change skins in the middle of a match? You cannot freely open your inventory and swap equipped skins whenever you want during an active match. However, when the teams switch sides, CS2 uses the loadout you prepared for the side you are now playing.

Can you switch skins during a CS2 match?
Not manually.
Your equipment is configured through the CS2 loadout before you enter the match. Valve’s loadout system allows players to make separate weapon choices for the T and CT sides, so each faction can have its own setup.
This means there is an important distinction:
- You cannot manually change an equipped skin whenever you want during a round.
- You can prepare different T and CT loadouts before the match.
- After a side switch, the game uses the equipment assigned to your new side.
So if you want one style for T and another for CT, set both up in advance rather than trying to change items once the match has started.
What are “T-side” and “CT-side” skins?
Players also use these terms informally to describe skins that visually suit one faction better.
T-side skins
Terrorist character models and many T-sided map areas use warmer, earthier colors. Because of that, players often pair them with skins featuring:
- red, orange, gold, or beige colors,
- sandy and desert inspired patterns,
- worn or aged metal finishes,
- brown and rustic details.
These combinations can work particularly well on maps such as Mirage, Dust II, or Anubis.

CT-side skins
Counter-Terrorist models generally have a more tactical look, with darker uniforms and cooler colors.
Popular choices for this type of loadout include:
- blue and purple finishes,
- black or grey skins,
- metallic patterns,
- cleaner technical designs,
- dark finishes with strong contrast.
There is no gameplay benefit to matching skins with a faction, of course. It is purely about how your inventory looks.
Can you have different skins for T and CT?
For side-specific loadout configurations, yes. CS2’s loadout is divided between the Terrorist and Counter-Terrorist sides, allowing you to prepare each side before entering a match.
That makes it possible to build two different visual themes. For example, you might choose warmer colors for your T loadout and darker blue or black finishes for CT.
The important part is that these choices should be made in your loadout before the match. You are not dynamically browsing your inventory and replacing finishes during active gameplay.
Is it worth building separate T and CT setups?
If you care about the appearance of your inventory, definitely.
Separate setups give you more freedom to create a consistent style for each faction. You could build:
- a red and gold T loadout,
- a blue and black CT setup,
- two completely different themes,
- or a neutral inventory that looks good on either side.
There is no competitive advantage, so the decision comes down entirely to personal preference and how much you want to spend on your loadout.
The simple answer
You cannot freely swap CS2 skins during an active match. Instead, configure your T and CT loadouts beforehand. When you change sides during the match, CS2 uses the setup assigned to that faction.
That gives you enough flexibility to build separate T and CT styles without needing to change your inventory manually while playing.
